Toning the Japanese Paper

It is a conservation technique intended to provide aesthetic harmony when mending photographs.

You  need:
  • Acrylic colors
  • Glass container
  • Tray
  • Filtered water
  • Japanese paper
How to do
  1. Choose the colors that you want to use and mix them with water in a glass container. I wanted to get brown color and I choose yellow ochre, burnt umber light and raw umber.
  2. Pour the liquid (colored water) in a tray.
  3. Dip the Japanese paper into the colored water and hang it to dry over the night.
 Tips:
  • If you color many pieces of Japanese paper, stir the colored water before you dip each of them in the tray.
